The 2021 wine making season has begun at Gwinllan Estate.

2021 Champagne harvest at Gwinllan started on August 10th and continued through August 14th. All harvesting was performed at night. Both Pino Noir and Chardonnay grapes were harvested.

This year harvest of the champagne grapes started within a few days of the same time last year.  Yields were a little lighter than last year. Pressing finished on Saturday 14th, that evening the Caldor fire broke out.

The champagne grape juice is now undergoing a slow cool fermentation.

Since the Caldor fire started there have been two significant power outages at Gwinllan Winery. Winery operations have not been affected as Gwinllan Winery can operate fully without power from PG&E.

This year two Champagnes will be made a Blanc de Noirs and a Brut.  Part of each lot will be set aside to be late disgorged.
