Fascinating Facts About Gwinllan Estate
Our Name Carries Heritage
“Gwinllan” is the Welsh word for “vineyard.” We chose it to honor our family’s roots in Wales and England, tying our past to our present in the Sierra Foothills.
Above the Heat, Below the Snow
The vineyard sits at an elevation of 2,400 feet — high enough to escape the Central Valley heat and fall fog yet low enough to avoid the spring frosts. With expansive south-facing slopes and decomposed granite soil, our vines benefit from ideal sun exposure and optimal drainage. Every element was chosen with purpose to ensure that the fruit we harvest delivers maximum flavor and character.
Vineyard-Grown, Start to Finish
All wines at Gwinllan Estate are 100% estate-grown and bottled. We manage every step, from vine to wine, with hands-on care and sustainable farming practices.
Cave-Aged Wines
Some of our wines, including our 9-year barrel-aged Zinfandel Port, are aged in a cool, natural cave under the vineyard, providing ideal conditions for maturation.
Vineyard Dogs On Duty
Our two Border Collies, Gwynn and Matilda, serve as our chemical-free pest control team — and unofficial greeters for every tasting guest.
